Kane Williamson : Due to injury, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will not be able to play in the next three games of the current five-match home T20I series against Pakistan, the NZC said on Tuesday, January 16. For his hamstring issue, the 33-year-old had a scan on Monday, January 15. Will Young, the opening batter, will take his spot for the remaining three games as New Zealand awaits the findings of the scan. Mitchell Santner is anticipated to head the team.

Williamson has flown to Tauranga for a diagnostic on Monday, according to ESPNcricinfo, after ending the second T20I in Hamilton on Sunday with a hamstring injury. “It’s the same leg as what his knee injury was on,” New Zealand’s coach Stead was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. As the series goes on, the New Zealand squad will be keeping a careful eye on his condition.

The hosts now lead the five-match T20I series 2-0 after winning the second match by a margin of 21 runs. Williamson had a score of 26 when he departed the field due to right hamstring tightness.

Coach Stead stated that Tim Seifert will take up Williamson’s position on the team while his absence. Seifert is also expected to replace Devon Conway in the wicket-keeping role. Seifert hasn’t played in the series yet, but he’s expected to be a key member of the squad in the lineup for the next games.

What Kane Williamson Said ?

“He’s gone home to Tauranga. He’ll get a scan today. Until I know more about the scan, then I haven’t got any further update at this stage. Will Young was going to join the team anyway for this series. Kane wasn’t going to join. I think it’s likely that Will will stay on, but until we get the scan results from Kane, then we can’t make a further decision,” he stated.

“I don’t think he’s going to play. When asked whether Williamson will play in the last T20I, Stead responded, “I mean, with the Test matches so close as well and probably in the big scheme of things in the short term for us has higher priority then I think it’s likely we’ll try and make sure that he’s right for that.”

“We’ve made a few attempts to catch up, but we haven’t been successful. Later on, we’ll figure that out. I still need to figure it out because I don’t know what his obligations are at that particular moment,” Stead said.
