In a suggestion, Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald said that Mitchell Marsh might captain the side in the soon-to-be June 1 T20 World Cup. The team management has backed Marsh to take up the position ahead of the major competition since he has led the squad well in white-ball cricket during Pat Cummins’ absence.

McDonald discussed the situation and said that it would not be long until Cricket Australia authorities finalise the latest development. He continued by saying that Marsh checked all the boxes and that the team management was satisfied and at ease with his leadership throughout the tour to New Zealand in 2024 and the South Africa trip last year.

“I believe that Mitch will be reached by all routes, therefore we need to address that in certain places. We’re pleased and at ease with how he’s been able to perform with that Twenty20 squad. According to cricket.com.au, McDonald stated, “We think he’s the leader for the World Cup, and I think that will just be a matter of due course.”

Meanwhile, wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade led the squad while Marsh and Cummins were out. Although Marsh had the potential to be the future Australian T20I captain, the team management put their trust in him since he had excelled in all three areas over the previous two years. The all-rounder was granted the Allan Border Medal earlier in the year because of his significant contribution to Australia’s victory in the 2023 ODI World Cup and their Ashes victory in England.
