At the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, ten clubs bid 230.45 crore rupees for 72 players in the inaugural IPL 2024 Player Auction, which was conducted abroad. Mitchell Starc, an Australian pacer, sold for the highest price ever at the IPL Auction when the Kolkata Knight Riders paid Rs. 24.75 crore for his services.

On Tuesday, a total of 72 players received IPL contracts, with 10 clubs shelling out INR 230.45 crore in total. Shubham Dubey, an uncapped cricket player from India, and Sameer Rizvi had an overnight change in fortune after being selected by RR for ₹5.8 crore and CSK for ₹8.4 crore, respectively.

Mitchell Starc broke his captain Pat Cummins’ record, which was set just an hour ago, to become the most expensive player in IPL history, giving M Shahrukh Khan and Kumar Kushagra enormous paydays as well. While SRH paid ₹20.5 crore to acquire Cummins, KKR spent an astounding ₹24.75 crore to acquire Starc. Indian pacers Shivam Mavi and Umesh Yadav were acquired by GT and LSG for ₹5.8 crore and 6.4 crore, respectively.

All-rounder Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand came very close with ₹14 crore. CSK came to get him. Harshal Patel was acquired by PBKS for ₹11.75 crore, breaking the bank for him. CSK began by selecting Shardul Thakur (₹4 crore) and Rachin Ravindra (₹1.8 crore) as their all-rounders for the second set. After a heated bidding battle between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, West Indies T20 skipper Rovman Powell was sold to RR for an incredible ₹7.40 crore. The first player to be sold in the IPL 2024 auction was Powell, who had a base price of ₹1 crore. Rilee Rossouw was unclaimed, but DC paid ₹4 crore to get Harry Brook.

The Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad engaged in another bidding war for Australia’s Travis Head. SRH purchased the World Cup final hero for Rs. 6.8 crore after he was first valued at ₹2 crore. Steve Smith, Karun Nair, and Manish Pandey did not find any takers. The overseas keepers and spinners, including Josh Inglis, Kusal Mendis, Adil Rashid, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, were not well-received, as was to be expected. Uncapped Australian left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson, who was bought by Gujarat Titans for 10 crore, attracted interest during the fast auction, while international players Rassie van der Dussen, Jimmy Neesham, Michael Bracewell, Matt Henry, and Kyle Jamieson were all unsuccessful in selling.
