IND vs AFG, 1st T20I Highlights : After winning the toss, India asked Afghanistan to bat first. As a result of the Afghan openers’ poor run rate, India controlled the first ten overs of the match rather than the pair amassing a 50-run opening partnership at Mohali’s PCA ISB Stadium. Azmatullah Omarzai and seasoned all-rounder Muhammad Nabi put up 68 runs for the fourth wicket. Afghanistan amassed a creditable 158 runs via the bat following cameos from Karim Janat and Najibullah Zadran. Shivam Dube also claimed a wicket, while Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar both claimed a brace. India responded by chasing the score with 15 balls and six wickets left. Shivam Dube, the player of the match, scored 60 runs in just 40 balls, which proved to be the winning stroke.
Afghanistans cricketers greet India’s Shivam Dube, right and Rinku Singh at the end of the first T20 cricket match between India and Afghanistan in Mohali.
It was pretty cold. It was fun to play on this pitch. There was considerable pressure, but I had one thing on my mind: I had to play my game. For the first two or three balls, I feel a little pressure, but after that, I concentrate on the ball because I know I can knock huge sixes. I seized the chance to bowl that was presented to me.
It was pretty cold. I’m all right now. The ball stings the fingertip when it hits it. All turned out OK in the end. Lots of positives; we learnt a lot from this game, especially with the ball. We had several quite good spinners and seamers that bowled too. You want to be out there scoring runs for the team when these things (run-outs) happen. Nothing will go as planned for you. Gill needed to keep going. Many advantages. Tilak, Jitesh, Dube, and Rinku all batted beautifully, and Rinku is particularly good. Where we feel a bit uneasy, we want to push ourselves. We want to make certain that we win.
Despite difficult circumstances, India’s captain Rohit Sharma stated on Thursday that there were many encouraging things to learn from his team’s six-wicket victory against Afghanistan in the opening T20 International in Mohali. On a chilly Mohali night, the hosts did not have an easy victory. After losing Rohit and Shubman Gill in the powerplay overs, Shivam Dube entered the field at number four and scored a valiant sixty-nine runs without conceding an edge to assist India, who were chasing 159, reach the finish line.
“These things happen. When it happens you feel frustrated, you want to be out there and score runs for the team. Everything will not go your way. We won the game, that’s more important. I wanted Gill to carry on, unfortunately got out after playing a very good little innings,” said Rohit.
Rohit drove towards mid-off and was on strike when he was asked for a fast single. Gill was still within the crease at the non-strikers’ end when Rohit lined himself up for the single, sprinting all the way to the other end. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the wicketkeeper, was able to remove Rohit by striking the bails at the batter’s end as a result.
