Avesh Khan Replaces Injured Shami : A day after they were defeated in three days by innings in Centurion, India’s selection for the second Test against South Africa now includes uncapped fast bowler Avesh Khan. In Cape Town, the second and final Test will start on January 3.

Mohammed Shami, who is sidelined for the Test series due to an ankle ailment, is replaced by Avesh. After participating in the three ODIs earlier this month, Avesh has already arrived in South Africa and will remain there to represent the India A team. He took a five-for on the third day of the Benoni four-day tournament, which is presently in its second round.

Mohammed Shami, a fast bowler with an injury, will be replaced by Avesh Khan for the second Test against South Africa, according to the BCCI.
The second Test will begin on January 3, 2024, at Cape Town’s Newlands. India lost Thursday’s first Test in Centurion by an innings and 32 runs, trailing the two-Test series 0–1.

Shami did not receive the required clearance from the BCCI medical team, hence he was not allowed to participate in the two Tests.

Avesh played in India’s 2-1 victory over South Africa in the previous ODI series. In three One-Day Internationals, the 27-year-old has taken six wickets at a cost of 19.17 each, helping India win their first ODI series in South Africa since 2018. It is noteworthy to mention that Avesh has an outstanding record in first-class cricket as well. In 38 matches, he has claimed 149 wickets at a strike rate of 22.65, including seven five-wicket matches and two ten-wicket matches.
