Babar Azam Sets a New PSL Record
2 min readIn the Pakistan Super League’s history, Babar Azam became the first player to reach three thousand runs. In the PSL 2024 season opener against Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators, the former captain of Pakistan accomplished this feat.
Regarded as one of the best batters in contemporary cricket, the right-hander now has 3,003 runs after scoring a half-century against the Quetta Gladiators. He leads this list, closely followed by Fakhar Zaman of the Lahore Qalandars (2381 runs) and Shoaib Malik of the Karachi Kings (2135 runs). With 2007 runs under his belt, Multan Sultans skipper Mohammed Rizwan is ranked fourth.

Babar could not, however, manage to assist Zalmi overcome the Gladiators in the first PSL 2024 encounter; instead, they lost by 16 runs.
Babar, 29 years old made his PSL debut in 2016. Prior to joining Zalmi in 2023, he played in the league for Islamabad United and Karachi Kings. Under Misbah-ul-Haq’s guidance.
He earned his first PSL championship with Islamabad in the 2016 campaign. He guided the Karachi Kings to the PSL championship in 2020.
Babar has scored 16 runs in two games for Islamabad United out of his 3003 runs in the PSL so far. He scored 23 half-centuries to help him accumulate 2398 runs in 66 matches for the Karachi Kings. Babar has participated in 12 matches as a Zalmi player and amassed 590 runs with a strike average of 147.13 and an average of 53.63. As a player with the Peshawar Zalmi, he has one century and six fifties in the PSL.
On Wednesday, February 21, at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Zalmi’s second PSL 2024 encounter against Karachi Kings will feature Pakistan’s top run scorer in T20 Internationals.\
