Dota 2 Riyadh Masters : The Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia revealed on Twitter on February 5th that Dota 2 esports will be a part of the enormous multi-esports championship competition. Officially, Riyadh Masters is now a part of the 2024 Esports World Cup. Dota 2 is now the fourth esports game to be shown in the Esports World Cup, trailing only Counter-Strike 2, Starcraft II, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Saudi Arabia has launched a unique concept called the Esports World Cup.

In a previous statement, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia said that this World Cup competition will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, every year beginning in the summer of 2024. The biggest game prize pools in esports history are also expected to be included in the tournament.

Dota 2 x Esports World Cup Riyadh 2024

Teams will compete to earn EPT points throughout the season by participating in a variety of ESL-organized tournaments, according to the official ESL website. Interestingly, the Riyadh Masters at the Esports World Cup in 2024 will only be open to the top 20 teams on the EPT leaderboard.

The following is the distribution of ESL Pro Tour points among the ESL competitions prior to the start of the Riyadh Masters:

  • 19980 PTS – ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023
  • hSeason 22 of DreamLeague – 18550 PTS
  • 26640 PTS – ESL One Birmingham 2024
  • Season 23 of DreamLeague – 26100 PTS

The Riyadh Masters 2024 event is scheduled to begin in July 2024 and will involve both open and closed qualifications for each of the seven qualifying regions: North America, South America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East and North Africa, China, and Southeast Asia.

The establishment of an esports world cup is driven by Saudi Arabia’s goal to generate 39,000 new jobs and boost the industry’s contribution to the Kingdom’s gross domestic product by more than SR 50 billion (~$13.3 billion USD) by 2030.

Anticipated to be the biggest worldwide esports competition of its kind, the Esports World Cup 2024 will provide a platform to uplift the gaming and esports industry and strengthen Saudi Arabia’s standing as a centre for global esports. It will have the biggest prize pools for victors in esports history in addition to a number of well-known games from a variety of genres.

The most recent rumour circulating in the community is that Riot Games is allegedly finalising the specifics of League of Legends’ participation in the Esports World Cup 2024. It will be interesting to see League of Legends and Dota 2 play major roles in this profitable competition.

It should be emphasised that the event’s exact format is still unknown; all that is known is that several organisations will enter teams in various events to compete for the title of first-ever Esports World Cup champion.
